Intertidal Works

Intertidal works can present challenges to vessel owners and contractors as the intertidal zone can present a very unstable set of conditions from the tidal fluctuations and the make-up of the shore line areas substrate e.g. mudflat or mudstone, shingle and fluidised sand. During high and low tides restrictions are required on the vessel proximity to the shore and to the plant and equipment on the beach area. It is not uncommon for plant and vehicles to sink into the mud/sand and require salvage operations.

Most intertidal works are associated with cable laying and connection onshore where risk assessments method statements are vital controls for the operations along with the satisfaction of Local Authority consent requirements.
